Japan
7.7 mm/94 (0.303") "HI" Type
Updated 27 May 2012

This weapon was imported from the British firm of Vickers and used as an AA MG on a few ships in the 1920s.  Some small quantity of these guns were also built in Japan.  This weapon was water-cooled and recoil operated.

This weapon had a low muzzle velocity and a short effective range.  For that reason, these guns were replaced on most warships starting in 1935 by the Hotchkiss 13 mm gun.

Actual bore diameter was 0.303" (7.65 mm).
