Good comparison between new 8"/55 (20.3 cm) Turrets on USS Baltimore (CA-68) and older ones on USS Indianapolis (CA-35) in the near background.  In the far background is an unidentified Cleveland (CL-55) class light cruiser.
The four objects on the front of each turret roof on USS Baltimore are periscopes, one for each gunlayer and one for the turret captain.
