The Illustrious was hit seven times by 250 kg (500 lb) Semi-Armor Piercing (SAP) bombs. Three bombs hit within feet of each other around the after lift (and later a damaged Stuka), one hit just aft of the forward lift, penetrated the flight deck and exploded starting several fires in the hanger, one penetrated the flight deck, passed out the side then exploded, two hits on AA platforms alongside the flight deck, one of these did not detonate.
Unable to recover her airborne aircraft, they diverted to Malta. Later that afternoon, she was attacked again suffering one additional hit to the previously mauled after lift. At 10:00 pm she berthed in Grand Harbor, Malta. There were still fires burning out of control on the hanger deck and below. Temporary repair were started at Malta, she was attacked again, before moving to Alexandria, then to Norfolk Navy Yard, Virginia for permanent repairs.
On 26 May 1941, HMS Formidable was surprised and attacked by 12 Stukas. They scored three hits with 500 kg (1100 lb, often misreported as 1000 kg) bombs. One hit in the center of the flight deck, penetrating below and exploding in the hanger spaces, the other two penetrated the starboard side causing extensive damage. She retired first to Egypt, then to the US for repairs.
On 12 August 1942, HMS Indomitable was attacked by dive and torpedo bombers, no torpedo hits were scored, but she was hit three times by 500 kg bombs, one hit dead center on the flight deck [2], one aft of the armor protection and one on the starboard side. Although able to steam at 28 knots, she withdrew for repairs, as she was unable to continue air operations.
In all three cases the carriers were incapable of flight operations until after yard repairs, 4 months for the Illustrious, 6 months for both the Formidable and Imdomitable. Now, it might be unfair to say it took a yard 6 months to fix a hole in the flight deck, as many other repairs and upgrades were also done, but the fact remains, that holing the flight deck effectively put the carrier out of action until she could get to a yard. Further, the armored flight deck did not prevent bombs from getting into the hanger, and the enclosed nature of the hanger, made fire fighting more difficult. [3]
如果这个描述准确的话 德国250公斤半穿甲炸弹也击穿了英国的76毫米飞行装甲装甲
但是不会造成 翔鹤那种飞行甲板结构完全失效的情况 |
